Legislative Report

A Clean and Sustainable Environment

We took strides this year in historic environmental protections by:

  • Passing the 100% Clean Energy by 2040 bill into law, and are now set on the path to being a leader in the clean energy future.
  • Authorizing over $315 million from the federal IIJA to improve roads, bridges, transit, broadband internet access, water treatment facilities, and lead pipe replacement.
  • Enacting a nation-leading ban on non-essential uses of man-made PFAS chemicals, linked to cancer and other illnesses.

Education

We prioritized transformational investments in education this session. Using our budget to invest in our kids sets our district and state up for more success in the future!

  • Stabilizing future funding by indexing to inflation, and increasing the general education formula.
  • Investing in special education, mental health services, and literacy programs.
  • Requiring schools to provide menstrual products for students.
  • Providing free breakfast and lunch for all students.

Increasing Healthcare Access

Every person has the right to healthcare. Too often, our current system does not provide the care people deserve. This year we passed legislation to improve healthcare access to Minnesotans, including:

  • Funding to increase access for behavioral and mental health services
  • Requiring an actuarial and economic analysis to examine different models to improve our health care system
  • Protecting reproductive rights so medical decisions are made between a person and their healthcare provider

Advocating for South Maplewood and Woodbury

At the Capitol, I made sure you were at the center of my decision-making. I authorized bills and closely followed their progress so our district would directly benefit from this momentous session. Examples include:

  • Securing funding for the renovation of Central Park
  • Protecting Minnesotans’ genetic information when using direct-to-consumer genetic tests
  • Prohibiting homeowners’ associations (HOAs) from banning solar panels on homes
  • Establishing a paid family and medical leave program, ensuring no Minnesotan faces the impossible choice between losing a paycheck and caring for a new child, an aging loved one, or themselves
